It's a good thing I bought all that equipment and tooling over the past 30 years. Even learned to use it reasonably well.
Went for a bike ride yesterday and upon arriving back home I put the side stand down as one does in preparation for opening the shop door. The bike didn't want to stop leaning over! Fortunately I was still astride the bike. Got it upright and put it on the centre stand for an inspection. The pivot / axle bolt for the side stand had failed in tension (after 13 seasons)!
None in stock "in country". Check my European suppliers to find 3 weeks delivery and 30 Euros plus 35 Euros for shipping. Sure it's special but not that special (Flanged shoulder bolt with an 8M male thread and a 6M female thread in the hex end to hold the side stand switch).
Needless to say, I turned on the lights in the shop and got to digging in my stock of short-ends. BTW, there is a nice generous radius where the threads and shoulder meet ... now. Sure, it took just short of 2 hours total time to repair but I work cheap (probably would have been charged that at the dealers just to install the OEM bolt).
The best part is that I can go riding again today!
