Shop Cleanup

have to pick the right mood ...... energetic enough to not just sit, but not fired up enough to make something.

I hate a messy shop. The more I've acquired over the years, the more neatness and organization matters. I currently have 50lbs of potatoes stuffed in a 20 lb sack so am hampered somewhat, but it still hurts my spirit to not have every bench clear and every machine table clear.

It was just a joke. I don't really have a problem. I fired myself 50 years ago. I am a very happy piler. Or as I like to say, I prefer organized chaos.

Your problem is that you are an anal filer. (I enjoyed saying "your problem is"). But seriously, it's not a problem. It's just the way you are wired. I'm happy to be me.

Truth is I'd never get anything done if someone forced me to be neat and tidy. On the other hand, you prolly could never get things done in a messy shop!

It's all ok. We are just different in that respect.

Someday, I'd love to see the look on your face if you ever see my shop, and I'd love to see yours someday too!

Now see I solve this issue thru poor health. I can't be fired because I have a disability and I can't be forced to clean up when my disability makes it too difficult.

I'm not clean freak, but I just can't stand when I have a good day where I want to do some work, or I have a bad day but I need to do emergency repair and I can't find the tool(s) I need to accomplish the required task.

At least I recently made major headway on changes to my storage capacity so I can get more organized.

I usually end up going out there during the week, when I don't have enough motivation or time to really start something. I will go and clean up from the last time I had the motivation to start something.....that often backfires into me starting something

....sometimes I end up in going back in the house with a tidier shop.....

My wiring has been changing over the last few years. Now trending to tidier than before. The big hazard is that any shop space I'm not actively using becomes a clutter-catcher. So the wood shop at the cabin is a disaster that I'm excavating an hour at a time.

This weekend I reclaimed bench and floor. Next weekend maybe I'll get to reclaim the table saw and outfeed tables. Slow and steady.

I’m on the messy side but my Son is a neat freak, if he asks where something is i can tell him but when he takes off on a cleaning binge you never know what he will throw out or where he put it, it’s baffling the treadmill he took apart in the basement is still lying there, last time he cut the grass he put my barbecue in the alley for the scrappers mind you I haven’t used it in a couple years but WTF.

If you want a laugh, ask my wife if I'm a neat freak. She'll say somewhere between a part time casual slob and full strength industrial pig. As I got more stuff, its just pragmatism that drives the push toward neatness/organization
