Shaper à métal (Metal Shaper) - $800 - Laurier-Station, QC

Came across this ad today. Probably the slopiest slap-dash paint job I have ever seen on a machine. They painted the X axis slide and the tool! I don't think I'd call it a red flag at this point. Probably more of a red sail.

That is super duper good price for PREMA #3 - which is a light weight 18 in shaper. I have #2 which is just 13in.

I can see it needs work - not just paint removal - but if this was any closer I would pick it up immediately.

I paid x2 for mine few years ago.

My first thought was that the person painting it probably didn't even know what it was, or at least how it worked, but I see there is a lathe behind it.

This item comes up on Kijjiji in the category “cats and kittens needing rehoming”. Not kidding. Maybe even Kijjiji isn’t aware what is a metal shaper?

Kijiji doesn't pick the category. The seller does.

Anybody who puts a shaper in with cats doesn't sell on Kijiji much if ever. When I am interested in an item, this is 1 time when I like to sit on it for a while and then after a few weeks of no interest, make a low ball offer.

Good point Susquatch, been years since I sold anything on Kijjiji.

I’d be reluctant to buy anything, even at cheap price, that I can’t do a trial run on first. I have the tools and ability to rebuild this shaper, but why, when good condition shapers are available? I have had hundreds of hours running a 28” stroke TOS shaper and loved that machine. Currently have a medium sized G&E and a SB. Running a machine with a sagged back ram, or a U shaped cross rail would be frustrating.

Yeah but at least in AB there are no shapers in good condition at a decent price that are smaller than 28".

I sell mostly on FB marketplace and occasionally buy - but mostly sell. A lot of items that are not gone in the first 5 minutes are very overpriced and sellers are in some dream land. Or try to flip auction items at 10x what they bought it for. Or simply you cannot get the item to the right group of buyers. For example I have 10 strike wrenches for less than price of 1, some new. Or I had a Live Center, new, for 1/4 of the price of new sit for over a year. 3ph motors simply do not sell - or sell super cheap - there is a guy next to my house trying to sell 10 7.5hp 3ph motors for $50 each.

Apologies for topic wander- does your neighbour have a good bearing tefc 7.5 hp 3ph 220v motor? Looking to remotor a Colchester lathe in near future.

Yes he does - I am sure I even have these - I have lots of motors - cannot buy more as I have no where to put. Why you need one?
