SFM Question - Possibly Stupid

Silly question - on a CNC lathe, is it programmed to change spindle RPM to maintain a set SFM as the workpiece diameter changes? (I woke up at 5:00 AM wondering about this. Time to change the dosage.)

Yes.

Yeah, that plus a max rpm so it doesnt go to infinite in the center.

Yes. It's called constant surface speed (CSS). You don't have to use it, but it's really nice when parting. Just be sure to set your max RPM at the start of a program.....
