You guys have seen this project before, but I'm trying to stitch it together as a series of videos detailing the steps to recondition it

@Mcgyver I watched part-II, excellent work!
Was the original tailstock quill hard chromed or was that your decision to make it long lasting & obviously compensate for the increased bore from lapping? Maybe I missed but about how much was lapped off?

Thanks Peter, it was not originally hard chromed but was hard irrc. The plating is done just as a way to build up so you can grind it down to fit .... that will wear well is a fringe benefit .... .but if not clean and oiled the bore will wear so you're not out of the woods. Lapping is only done on the bore, quill is ground. I think I ground off 5-8 thou before plating... I noted in video you need to end up with a thick layer of chrome in the end, a thou or so won't work as it will likely flake off.

My other question was how much you figured you lapped out of the tailstock bore. Reason is I found it to be excruciatingly slow process on my radial CI liners. Like 2 thou is a lot
