One for the kitchen table gunsmiths onboard.
I dont know how to "link" but I think a google to "How to make barrel rifling from old steel bolt" will get you to the Utube vid.
Interesting but very much a "Kyber Pass" type operation ...but I bet it works in a pinch.

It is ingenious 3rd world tech, but as far as twist rate which is determined by the powder and bullet, and accuracy, I have my doubts. Probably something to keep in the back pocket for when the SHTF.

Not really. The twist rate is machined or formed into the metal of the bore much like threading a hole for a screw but much longer tpi. So much longer that it's measured in terms of the length it takes to make one revolution.

Now if you mean the desired design twist rate, then yes, the bullet length to weight ratio (sectional density) and spin stability is the primary determinate.

In reality, your right, not much more than a very close quarters "in a room" self protection usable item . The simple ingenuity of the maker caught my admiration.

I have often thought about "how could I cut a home made button rifling slug " but couldnt come up with a simple solution to cut a spiral groove but I think this guy may have my answer...now Im thinking of just straight cutting some small grooves about 1/4 inch long in a piece of drill rod , heat it and give er a twist like this guy did with the SS bit then cut a bunch of excess grooves off leaving enough stubs that fit the pipe bore exactly for a pilot, then harden & have a short section left to force down a pipe .
I wouldnt pound it thru the pipe but rig up a hyd push system using a ram from the front end loader still here on the farm.
it aint gonna be competition accurate by any means but should pass a "Kyber Pass" test.

And I promised the wife this fall...no more projects started untill I finish the yard clean-up started last summer...ohhhh wellll...she'll never notice that it wasnt a project started long ago...
