Railway Track

I have some 80lb/yard rail in my back yard. This is medium duty stuff by today's standards but it is over 100years old. Im making it available for purchase because a few people have asked for it. Can be cut to the length you require on site. Let me know what you want and we will come up with a price.

BTW, there are quite a few YouTube videos on making anvils from track. I'm really not sure if its the steel suitability, scrap availability, or the shape that somewhat lends itself to an anvil. Anyway, type something like 'railway track anvil' in the search box & you should turn up several homebrew projects.

I knew a guy in Rocky Ridge, Calgary who bought a hand truck cart and mounted it in his backyard on similar track. It looked cool. (I would have gone an extra step and put a BBQ on it). He also bought an old caboose and mounted it on rails on his recreational property in BC as a vacation cabin. Again...cool. Those railway guys are hard-core and passionate.

For me, the stuff cuts up well and lends itself to lots of artistic stuff. I don't need any right now, but just out of curiosity and for future reference, where did you get yours Alex? Can you buy it at Ogden Yards??

The family are all railways collectors. I get the scraps that my uncle's and father don't want. Here is a 1 foot section with the top milled off. Very hard stuff.

Alex, I have a devoted 3/4 HP Baldor buffer in my garage--not the girly 1/3 HP model you can get anywhere (insert politically correct and respectful non-sexist qualifiers here). I love to buff these rail segments to an artistic shine and use them in sculptures. The carbon content of these rails, plus the sheer mass of them makes for an impressive piece. You can see its potential in your nicely machined pic. It clearly shows the potential of what could be.

I'm getting dangerous close to saying I'll take a few feet if any if any is left over.

Thanks for posting.

I'm interested in a few feet of that. If price is right I may take more
