Piston V.S. Wedge AXA QCTPs Question..

The main difference in off shore cheap tool post & holders vs. Aloris and similar is the fit. Aloris stuff fits very nicely - there is not much clearance. The off shore stuff not so much.

I am not sure how that transfers exactly to repeatability but it does transfer to clamping and change of the tool height from clamped vs. unclamped position as well as more movement from the chuck.

One would need to do a study on repeatability of say Aloris vs. China. Through differences her I would guess would only play a role in small stock work, say under 3/4".

Other differences would include hardness of material used and quality of set screws.

I
Ha ha that's kinda funny because I have a Mesa threading/grooving tool and have hss insert from AR Warner for other tool holders but thought to myself "I didn't think hss inserts were an option for that Mesa tool but I must be mistaken again" so I didn't question your statement. The only time I seem to speak up is when I am wrong.

I know the feeling! LOL!

FWIW, I hate making mistakes like that, but I accept that I am human and I try to fess up asap.

Amazing to find someone else using either of those tools, and even more amazing to find someone else using both!

Makes me wonder what else we have in common!
