Recently missed a pretty good deal on a used cricut ($100 with tons of vinyl and accessories) and it got me thinking how many others have one, any recommendations, and models to stay away from etc. I don't know much about them, but know enough that the $100 was a no brainer price (wife thought so too), but I was too slow on the draw. Now I want one. Probably just use it for stickers for kids stuff, airbrush stencils, etching resists and what ever other things I think of.

Quite a few used ones out there in the $200-250 range. Not something I want to buy new, and now that my internal price has been set.....It'll be tough for me to come off that number to buy a used one unless it also has tons of stuff with it. :D.

Anybody have one? What do you use it for, and how useful are they?
 
I have a Portrait. Same idea I think.

It was a "gotta have" moment a couple of years ago, got it, tried it once, and now it sits. I still need to figure out how to use it. Would be great for labelling machine projects that I have made in the shop. Or maybe the upcoming instrument panel, or ..... I bogged down at learning another graphics program.

So can't tell you much about using it. I was at the "One of a kind show" in Toronto a couple of weeks ago and they had seminars/demonstrations on them, but my timing was off so I did not get to attend. Probably would have sent me home with a myriad of ideas and enthusiasm.

I am sure that once the learning curve is behind you, there would be a lot of uses for it.
 
My wife has a circuit. Loves it ( she does card making etc. pretty slick. She also engraves plastic for Xmas ornaments

Best use I’ve seen is cutting gasket material for one off gaskets.
 
Never thought about gaskets. Could see that being handy. I've made them before by scanning a part, and printing out a template to cut out of gasket sheet. Would be nice to skip the middle step, and just send to cut, if it would cut it.

I don't think I'd use it much (not enough to buy a new one), but can see it being handy for some stuff.

We used to go to the one of a kind show when we lived downtown. Always a fun way to spend an afternoon seeing the creativity of people.
 
I just checked and the Michaels 40% off coupons don't apply to the cricut or silhouette machines. Damn.

Those are great things to bookmark in your smart phone BTW. Just bring it up and they can scan it off your phone. I use it all the time for casting resins. Makes it not worth buying them online (for the types they stock).

You remind me that I took photos of all my points cards (and the wife's cards) and keep them in a dedicated folder on my phone. The stores just scan your phone screen. That way they don't clog my wallet.

I'm actually enjoying using my phone for most of what used to be in my wallet which used to look like yours.

Google or Samsung Pay is WAAAY faster, way more convenient, and ironically MORE SECURE than my credit cards, and also works with most points cards. I say more secure because the vendor does not see or know your credit card - google assigns a temporary one for each transaction and then is the only one actually charging your card.

Also, my phones tap function is more reliable and faster than a credit card tap. It works from 3 inches away.

The biggest weakness is vendor support. Some places will not do electronic transactions and insist on inserting your card or reading the magnetic strip. But this seems to be changing fast.

I have digitized all my points cards, and only carry one credit and one debit card now.

Most places will accept a photo of your health card, vaccine certificates, and drug plan card.

Ontario is rolling out a digital driver's license.

Ontario has already rolled out electronic hunting and fishing licenses.

So, for the time being you still need:

One driver's license
One credit card
One debit card
Health Card
PAL - Firearms License
Cash

But that is changing fast.

If you physically go to an actual bank or use debit cash from more than one bank then you will need their debit card too.

I don't travel outside Canada anymore, but if I did there might be some issues I am not aware of.

For 40 years, my wallet looked just like yours. But I recently performed a glutimectomy and moved most things to my phone. I can now sit comfortably on my butt.

You can certainly put that huge wallet on a huge diet @Dan Dubeau !

I thought it was really cool that my wife could text me a photo of her points card for groceries too.
 
I had these made by a local crafter. She cuts and cleans them, I iron them onto my pen sleeves.

I'm not ready to go digital yet.

I could probably ditch half the stuff in there, but just know I'll be out one day and need it. There's about 10-12 lcbo/beer store gift cards in there that I keep forgetting to redeem lol. You can only do it at the store, not a retail outlet, and since our little small town convenience store sells beer/liquor now I never go to the stores anymore, and when I do, I forget I have them.

This reminded me I need to renew my health card lol.

I need to get a new wallet soon, as this one is probably 10-15 years old. When I do, I'll pare it down a bit. Maybe give the digital features a try too. Drag me kicking and screaming into the future.......
