  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Ontario GTA West area meetup is planned for Saturday April 26th at Greasemonkeys shop in Aylmer Ontario. If you are interested and haven’t signed up yet, click here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Opinion needed about heavy cast iron junk (use to be surface grinder)

Hello gang.

Looking for your ideas how to use this pieces with maximum profit :). Here are my ideas

Idea A - bring to the junk yard, sell for +/- 200CAD . Buy another pice of junk :) I've seen there heavy duty portal crane in quite a good shape.
Idea B - Keep it and reuse some pieces in another projects - cut some useful cast iron parts like table and make straight edge from it. Reuse spindle ... else...
Idea C - preserve it for future restoration. Not sure when...
Idea D- give it away for free with promise not to go the junk yard right after picking it up.

Seriously,

If it's been sitting for years and you need the room then try selling it first.

If nobody wants to pay you to haul away your junk, their treasure, then offer it for free - without conditions.
 
Not worth a lot, most likely - nothing . Just don't like when piece of the machinery goes to scrap.
Anyway - free to grab. I will help to lad it to the truck or trailer
 
Unlike many, I like the way cast iron machines. I have some chunks saved from old machines and from time to time make something from them. I wouldn't dream of getting rid of them.
