  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Ontario GTA West area meetup is planned for Saturday April 26th at Greasemonkeys shop in Aylmer Ontario. If you are interested and haven’t signed up yet, click here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

Hello all!

I am Mark from Sask. I recently acquired an RF-30 milling/drilling machine and have been interested in learning more than how to just dull the end mills I bought for it.

So far all I have done with it is cast a new hand wheel for the left side out of aluminum as the previous owner managed to smash it while loading it onto my truck, convert it to 240VAC from 120, and make a few test cuts with the 3" HSS face mill and a couple end mills it came with.

I also own two South Bend 9" lathes, one of which I am still in the process of getting going again.

Looking forward to learning a bit about everything here!

Thank you,
Mark

welcome from Kelowna BC...where even the sunshine has a tax on it...
lots of folks from various backgrounds here...
I too am learning to do more than just dull, break or chip cutting tools

Welcome from Vancouver!

stuff that makes an RF-30 more fun: DRO, Vevor power feed, 2HP 240V 3-phase motor with VFD, replace the head lift hand crank with a nice big hand wheel, remove the annoying metal belt guard and replace it with a plexiglass shield, lots of tooling.

we're all here more than willing to help you spend money.

Eventually I do want to add a DRO, was considering a VFD for speed control instead of the constant belt adjustments, the rest I will have to look into!
I'm not sure I need more help spending money tho... I am wayyyyy too good at it already!

I am out in the thriving metropolis of Rosetown!
I do have to ask tho, 6.5 Creedmoor where you got the user name from?
No 6.5 Needmore here, i do like the 6.5x55 Swede though, awesome old cartridge. I did build a 6 Creedmoor though. I'm south east of Rosetown, in Lucky Lake area.

Oh nice!
I have done work down there at the AGT (if it still is AGT anyways) plant on the controls and automation in the past.
I personally am a large fan of the 6.5 Creedmoor after building one on a Savage platform myself is why that was my first goto when I seen your username!
