Myford Tri-Leva Metal Lathe, $4500, Calgary, AB

It is a ML7 with a clutch and 3 speeds. So like ML7 on steroids. Plus it has a gear box.

Price is OK, given some extra tooling etc. the $4500 asked is neither some great deal / steal but neither it is over the top expensive. Heck, he could have asked for $5000.

Had a friend that had a Tri-Leva equipped lathe. Worked well, and was apparently well liked in industrial circles, for its pretty much instant speed changes, as pulling any other lever released the one that was engaged, and tensioned the belt that you wanted running.

As a former ML7 owner, I would not buy one again unless you want it as a collectors item. The top speed of ~1200 RPM, spindle bore of 5/8in means paired with a very high price for its capability means its not worth it IMO. The super 7 or ML7R on the other hand are totally worth it if you find one for a good price.

All MyFords are overpriced. I also had one but it was way too much $$$ for way too little lathe.

Super 7 would be easily over 5k in AB market.

Wasn't always the case, IIRC the last two I bought were well under the price of a weekend ski trip... To a nearby ski hill...

But, Myford also priced themselves out of work with their last few years production too. No matter how you look at it, the never were, nor ever will be, a $22K lathe before adding accessories!

Compared to the Chinese lathes in the same size range, that come already half or more worn out, Myfords look like a pretty good buy, some days!

Having had both ML7 and Super 7 Myfords, I would definitely prefer the S-7, over the ML, but the ML does all the same jobs, if at lower revs. Have yet to note any point where the more rigid spindle of the S-7 made me notice any issues....
