I picked this up on ebay for $137 CND from an estate sale on the east coast and hoped for the best. The pictures were smaller than these pictures.

The pictures sent to me led me to believe that the level had rust pitting.

My thoughts were once it landed here at home in Ontario, I could give it a good clean and see what was left. What was discovered what that the marks on the level wasn't rust, but residual foam and adhesive from the level's case. Cleaning was a bit of a challenge. Thinners then paint stripper followed by more thinners, the level cleaned up very nice. However it rattled around in it's case. What to do? Follow along. First a section of thin polly foam is cut 1/8" smaller than the size of the box.

Next a small section of felt it cut so that it will wrap around the foam. Both are sprayed with 3M 77 contact cement. Expensive, but a very good product.

Next the felt is wrapped around the foam.

Place in the level case.

To protect the level from rusting, spray a bit of penetrating oil on the felt. When ready for use, give it a wipe. The felt will oil the level every time it is placed in the storage case.
