Mill touch up question

I was wondering: I have some HSS end millsl that are starting to leave some SMALL surface imperfections and perhaps not cutting as good as they did when new.

Would it be possible to chuck the bit in my lathe, run the lathe in reverse and touch the flutes with a very fine whetstone? Thinking it might help clean up and hone the edge of the flutes.

I wouldn't try to sharpen them this way, but akin to using a steel on a knife to restore the edge.

Has anyone every tried this? Good idea? Bad?
