Mill motor

Hey all,

Finally found a milling machine. I don’t have have it yet but just preparing. This is the motor that’s on it. I haven’t got the servo voltage for the table. My question is, can I just hook this up to my garage 240 with an Amazon or eBay phase converter VFD?

Sure, most VFDs in this size range will convert split phase 240v into 3ph 240v.

Small motors such as coolant pump / table feed etc. or a lamp or a small control transformer will not upset a VFD unless you pick one that is really small. This is based on experience.

Is it currently wired for 220 or 440? You may have to change some connections at the motor if it was running on 440 previously.

If there is no high/low voltage connection diagram on the name plate, there is likely one inside the connection box. I would expect the leads to have labels on them.

theres a plethora of threads on our forum discussing the various brands, and of course pros n cons of the less expensive units...
myself, I went with a less expensive unit, but purchased through a reputable distributor here in BC...I chose a VFD rated at 7.5 hp for my lathes 5 hp motor...so far I'm pleased with it's performance...
congrats on the new-to-you mill!!
