98% of what I've used historically has been scrounged unknownium. I checked out Hard Core several years back when they were newish - nothing round at that time. "Can't get it" they said. I suspect that meant "not worth stocking it too little demand".

Metal Supermarkets
Hard Core Metals
Cutter Industries, maybe? Or are they just structural?
Demexx in Coombs used to be good for used steel (large diameter shafts from decommissioned sawmills), but kinda hit and miss.

Lots of smallish places that sell structural stuff for welding but not so much for machining, like round or solid square/rectangular bar stock.

Any place I've missed that might have round or solid rectangular bar stock?

I've had excellent luck from Hardcore Metals. Lloyd Murtrie, the owner told me that he can order most materials with no minimums.
I'll go to Metal Supermarket for drops but mostly I avoid them because their prices are quite high.
@YotaBota likely has a good perspective on Cutter.

I'm going to try to check out Hardcore when I'm down that way next week. Sounded like they might at least have something I could make do with.

Cutter has been good for me. What they don't have they can get in a week or less from the mainland supplier. The best bet is to call them and see what they have and what they can get for you. I've never had them make more than one cut to length but one cut has been included in the cost. I've always bought full length pieces of HSS and rod stock and a 4x8 of 14g sheet metal. I don't know what the do for square stock bar stock for machining.

They don't do light gauge tubing or pipe but it is all dependant on what their supplier has.

Cutter is at the west end of the Sookeahalla so might not be worth the extra drive for you. The west shore parkway makes getting there a lot easier to got to than it used to be.

Are you looking for anything particular ?
I recently got a larger drill press, have realized what a pain my drill press vise is, and have decided I absolutely must have a floating vise. TubalCain, Blondi Hacks and others on the tube have descriptions of this basic design idea, which I plan to adapt to parts I already have and what I think will work for me.

What I don't have is square bar stock anywhere from about an inch upwards.

I have some rectangular bar or the appropriate size.
And I think you're in Victoria? Unless people mention that in their signature or somewhere I'm never sure (or don't remember). If you're free maybe I can touch base with you when I'm there next Tuesday?
