Looks like a Logan but in rough shape, wrench in the right box is for the tail stock. Looks like gears for threading are missing these alone are are worth serious money.

Looks like a 200 series machine missing the motor leg. By the way it's priced, "$999", I'd say he doesn't really know what it's worth and is just looking for an offer. It does have a tailstock with dauber so that's a plus.
I think maybe $200-$300 the way it sits, it will need a total tear down, cleaning and a few prayers. Maybe the change gears are in the drawers under the mess.
I've never seen a chuck that shape, looks unique.

There's a Logan-style threading gear chart, but not in the usual spot inside the gear cover. Could be one of the 'bench style' Logans like the 210, but missing the short leg (bench is too narrow to support that).
Hard to see if the cross feed button is there.Perhaps it's one of the lathes that Logan made for Montgomery Wards?
Maybe the price is a typo? Offer $99.99 ? :)
Geez- what do people do to these things?

Definitely not a 200 or 210, think its older as it has no belt tension adjustment in cover, and no power cross slide feed.

Some one that is bored can go through the list to find it
Not so much bored as curious, I should have said 10" model instead of 200. The apron half nut clamping looks like a 9" (4 bolts) and belt guard looks like a 10" but there's also no lifting knob on the cover.
I wonder if the name/model plate is under the drum switch.
If it wasn't going to cost me $200 (gas/ferry) I'd go for a look see.

I posted this on the Logan lathe group (groups.io), also on the Logan FBook group.
Quick reply from Scott Logan (Logan Actuator is still supporting Logan lathes with parts and info) and some other folks indicates it's a Logan 210 or 211 with a home-made belt cover.
I'd want to take a good look at the bull gear (and back gears) - it would take a good whack to break that cast belt cover.
I was pretty sure I got a good buy on my Logan 210, but seeing machines like this makes me realize that I was very fortunate. :)
"Not with a 10-foot pole" springs to mind, for me........ unless @YotaBota's estimate of $200 were true. Even then....

I'm a bit surprised at the negativity. All we really know is that the lathe is dirty. Dirty is really easy to cure!

It could be completely clapped out. It could be a diamond in the rough. My reading is that the seller knows little to nothing about the machine. The change gears could be sitting in a nice stack nearby. Or long gone. The same with the steady rest, follow rest, etc, etc.

If it were within a reasonable drive, I'd go look. Might be a great find. Might not. In good condition, it would be a great deal and that's enough for me to make a little field trip. The thrill of the hunt!

Really, the whole point is to be able to relate the story here on the forum and have people yell: "YOU SUCK!!!"

;)

Belt cover is missing (smashed?) and replaced with a homebrew substitute which doesn't appear to have a belt tension adjustment.
No pictures of the gears which may be missing teeth.
Bearings may be excellent. If not, the chuck end bearing is a $400 USD item.
Yes, perhaps the full set of accessories and extra chucks etc are hiding around the corner.
And perhaps this lathe led a pampered life and was re-painted (??) on a whim. Same with the original chuck- not worn out, just wanted a different style....
Asking price of $1000....
Say you got it for $600 - start adding up what you'd need to add to make it fully functional by 'modern standards'. You'd be at $2k in a hurry, from what the pictures show, and that would be without the rests..
I'm with @YotaBota on the pricing.
I've run aross this before with many different sellers: "It's really old so it must be worth a lot". Alternatively: "There's one born every minute and I just have to find that guy!"
BTW, same seller has a horizontal bandsaw - "Used daily for years" also at $999. Pictures show a shop environment. So not a guy selling grandpa's lathe for the family.
It's too bad we don't get to see what things actually sell for, unless somebody posts their bargain finds (with prices) online.

If I'm looking at something on the mainland I add $200 to the asking price of the item is just to cover the travel costs.
"It's really old so it must be worth a lot".
Been there as well, and then six months later they wonder why no one will buy it.

@trlvn is right, without actually seeing the beast we're all just speculators but I still don't think it's worth more than $200-300 as we see it. I bought my Logan 400 in pieces on a pallet with the box of gears and stuff found on a shelf in another area of the garage. A good cleanup and some paint turned it into a nice usable machine. It's just the lighting that makes it look like two colours of paint.

Never seen a drill chuck mounted on a headstock spindle before? Interesting..... How would you ever use that?

Island people are “different”, but in no way is that to be insulting

Just something I’ve noticed, take it as you will

You guys probably think us main landers are queer folk, so it goes both ways
