Machining night classes in Calgary

Hey All,

Anyone know of any machining night classes in Calgary? I heard that SAIT has done this in the past, but I can’t seem to find it on their website. I tried calling them and got bounced around a little and no one could tell me if they had something like that or not. Maybe there’s someone who runs a class out of a shop, sort of like Black Forest Wood does for woodturning?

Thanks

I tried searching using all the keywords I could think of = continuing ed, evening, machine, machinist, lathe, milling... Big Nada.
So I typed in welding thinking I was in the wrong section & got some hits. I wonder if they no longer offer machining courses in continuing ed form? What a shame if so. They had about 8 progressive courses including up through intro cnc. I'd heard rumor's of this before but figured maybe it was pandemic related. Also appears evening machining classes at the few remaining high schools appear to also be a thing of the past.

Thanks for looking into it Peter. Any non-traditional approaches that I maybe haven't considered? Ideally with a hands on component?

That's a good question but nothing comes to mind. I have seen various 'total immersion' daytime classes put on in the States where you basically make a vacation out of it but its the same hours duration. But those were more niche, not conventional machining metalworking like what you are seeking. I tried searching for a news announcement but came up empty. Presumably SAIT did a financial review & concluded daytime/career orientated education was going to be the focus & some (apparently many) evening classes were no longer profitable? This link mentions similar pause in woodworking classes Weird, the classes I took back in the day were always booked to capacity. You had to register early. Can't image the need has dissipated, so that leaves...... [insert grumpy emoji]
