Looking for non-US made angle grinder

I have a couple of 5” Metobo grinders. Both made in Germany and about $200 but I’ve had them for many years and don’t know if still made in Germany or what is todays price. They are very solid and well built. The one on the left is variable speed and 10 amp. The other one is a little heavy and 10.5 amp. The variable speed is great. It is my go to corded grinder. I also have a variable speed M18 Milwaukee. In pic below, note the red & yellow tape on the cord, that keeps me from unplugging the wrong one when moving it to a different plug in.

+1 for Metabo. I have a Bosch that’s been going for 20+ years and a newish Metabo.
Prefer the Metabo as the form factor fits me better.

I still have and use Dad's Metabo that he bought in the early 70's and he used it pretty much every day for twenty before I got it. It doesn't support the 1" hole discs, or I don't have the adaptor, but it's been great for everything else.

Adams handles Metabo so I'll drop is today as we're going into town for other stuff.

Thanks folks.

Metabo? They've changed, under new management lol.

I bought some Metabo parts recently, made in China, horrible quality. Really annoying as it seems like German prices, made in China quality. They are owned by KKR, a large US private equity group. . Don't how much of it is still made in Germany or if they are putting crap parts in the made in Germany stuff, but they are now US owned and at least what I bought, made in China.

Well rats.

Makita has drifted to Chinese outsource manufacturing on some tools. Pretty sure the palm sander I bought recently was made in China. Functionally it looks & performs well enough. Not sure what's under the hood or will it be around for 30 years like my Japan Makita tools.

I'm also a bit of Milwaukee fan boy. Started out as just 'standardize on the batteries' but so far I'm happy with the quality over a range of tools.

Damn, if only you knew someone with a lathe.

Looking for a non-US built/branded 4.5" angle grinder (corded). Is Bosch still German owned and built?
Bosch grinders, like other Bosch power tools, are manufactured by Robert Bosch GmbH, a German multinational engineering and technology company.

  • Bosch Tools: Is a brand owned by Robert Bosch GmbH.
  • Robert Bosch GmbH: Founded in 1886 by Robert Bosch in Stuttgart, Germany, and has expanded to become one of the largest automotive parts suppliers in the world.

Bosch or Makita would be my recommendations. I would vote for the 5" rat tail Makita as my go to, simply because My forearms are so screwed I can't hang onto large bodied 4.5" grinders for very long anymore. It's why I like my Makita 18v battery one, or my Rigid slim body (they don't make anymore :( )

Can't one hand them, but they're great for medium/heavy duty grinding applications (you should be using two hands anyway, right......:D ). Made in Canada (with global components) I have an older one that just wont die, and we have a large gaggle of them at work where Ironworkers and Millwrights continuously daily try to kill them unsuccessfully.

Probably the best would be Fein, made in Germany or Denmark. Cost is more but worth the extra.I have an older 4-1/2” Bosch angle grinder, from Germany. 220 volts. I love it. No one ever wants to borrow it either because it’s 220 voltage:)

Even if someone does borrow it, they can't hurt it by plugging in to 120v outlet, with a plug adaptor of course. lol

I went from Canada to Germany one time and forgot to flip the switch on the alarm clock to 220v, didn't dawn on me until it was to late why the clock LED was so bright. oops

Bosch for the win, small barrel size and 7.5 amp is more than what I'm used to so should be okay.

It may be Bosch but it's still made in China and in this state of the economy I'm okay with that.

Thanks all.

The lathe I have,,,, it's the M10x1.25 tap that's missing. lol
They have it on their web at $59 but when I added it to the cart it's $79.
Did you pay $59 or $79?
