Maybe he fell off the ladder trying to get that perfect shot & is laying beside the machine as we speak.

that is just too funny that he included that photo. Action shot during the descent....but I don't think he died. The accumulated debris and dirt on the floor cushioned the fall.

The ad is really funny, but its till might be fantastic deal....anyone venturing forth? Someone who didn't know what to do with them stuck them in a barn and there they sat. I bet there are three or four big crates of tooling not shown, lurking in the shadows :D

This could be a great deal for someone to put in a little legwork and effort. Go rescue Stan from off the ground, and give him a hand getting those machines out of there. Maybe theres a bunch of other goodies tucked away in that building he hasn't bothered to list yet.

Kind of reminds me of a clean up I helped with years ago. Older eccentric guy with a hording mentality and auction fever used to buy up stuff at school and other auctions. Eventually got to the point where he was over run with "stuff" at his house and started renting cheap, unheated storage in an old chicken barn. After a few years of accumulating, and punishment from the elements, he fell ill, and was unable to pay the bills. Friend of my Dad worked for the guy that owned the barn and said it all has to go. I found out midway through the scrap runs and was able to save a few things (diacro shear and finger brake, rusty tooling, etc), but a lot of machine tooling and woodworking machines went to the big shop in the sky. Barn Owner didn't want anything for them, just a way to keep his employees busy during downtimes cleaning it up, and wanted the space back. Son of collector guy was releived he didn't have to pay anymore back rent. I got a couple free machines that need some work, but are useable. The Son said his house had all the "good stuff". He scrapped it all :( One mans treasure.......

Stan isn't dead.

I just got a response. It can be interpreted two different ways so this could be a painful prospect as I try to pull information out of him

I pleased to hear Stan is making a good recovery. Should we send a card?

I think we should have about 20 guys email Stan with variations of "hey would sell me tailstock for $20", a few "hey can you bring it by so I can check out", "what sort of warranty will you offer", "will you trade for my kids used bike, only one tire is flat" and many <$100 offers.

Prime the pump for TB to swoop and take it all for $200. Home shop machinist social engineering run amok. :D

I dont know if I can take it... it's like Stan is dicking with me and trying hard to prevent me from ascertaining what I'd need to bring with me to load these things up

I think his response is pretty typical for someone that just want's something gone, with minimal effort. He doesn't have time for 100 questions, nor does he really know the answer to them. The ad has 385 visits and he's probably had at least 50 people contact him for more info, pictures, wiring diagrams, paintcodes, and his grandmas jam recipe. He has something he thinks has value, and needs it gone. IMO the price is more than worth a drive. Even from me from the other side of the GTA if I had any interest. I have no room, no need, and don't really want that lathe, nor mill, but if I was in the market, I'd be on Stans doorstep with my equipment ready to load it up and solve his problem for him. With a truck and trailer ready to haul it away I'd be he take $800 (after offereing him 600, and settling on middle ground) With the right equipment trailer you could load the lathe first, and take the mill straight to the scrap yard on your way home. Could wind up with a very cheap serviceable lathe for little to no money, just some time and effort. I doubt it'll ever be a beauty queen, but I'm sure, just going from that one picture it could spin again. With some work of course.
