My internet died so I can't use my laptop.:(:( I got one of the kids to show me how to access the web with my phone, which uses a different provider. The phone sucks big time. How in hell your supposed to use this piddly little screen and key board all the time boggles my mind.
Perhaps the problem is mine, old, grumpy and don't like change.

Is this your normal setup?

It does depend on the equipment you are using and the tasks you need to accomplish but despite having a desktop and a laptop, I do 95%+ of my internet stuff on my phone. For me, it's just much quicker and the phone is always with me.

I'm in the ancient category of humanity by most standards. I use my phone for 99% of what I do. You just need reading glasses, a comfy chair, patience, and the willingness to give it a decent try.

As bait, consider this. Your phone has a decent camera. It is ALWAYS in your pocket. It works ANYWHERE - Tractor seat, beach, hay field, beside your lathe, on the throne, at the range, out hunting, ANYWHERE!

So, I'm making a part. I need a dimension conversion. I google it by voice "Hey Google, what is 25.4mm in inches". If you don't want to use voice, just google it.

I decide to send a photo of a part to Susquatch. So I take the photo, press share, select txt messaging, select Susquatch as the idiot I want to send it to and he has it.

Or I can edit the photo immediately after taking it to reduce the resolution and maybe crop it, then directly upload it to a thread I'm posting on. All without leaving the side of my lathe.

Except when out and about I agree, and with good reasons, it's not just being grumpy old men. A surprising portion of people only access the internet this way. They have a strong want for a 60"+ TV screen, but are fine with a 6" computer screen.

I also believe "texts are for kids" ..... why f about on the stupid little screen keyboard when there is a email on the computer with a proper screen and keyboard.

Well, ok, maybe a little grumpy old man-ish

I was doing txt (T9 in the beginning) with my bride and my secretary before kids even had phones.

Why F about on a stupid little screen? Cuz you can do it right now wherever you are and it's done. You don't need to make a date with a desk. It's all about convenience, productivity, and efficiency.

For me, a voice call is for top priority communications. A txt message is next in line but can wait till I have a few seconds. Emails are for sometime in the next few days.

I miss my blackberry with full tactile keyboard. I hate touchscreen typing, and always will.

I'm also a believer of "little screen" tasks, and "big screen" tasks. My Wife does almost everything off her phone. She loathes pulling her laptop out on work from home days. I'm the opposite, except I do all my banking and financial stuff from my phone.

I remember thinking that the short little text messages that we able to send on our old brick phones were stupid and nearly useless. Then came the first phone cameras...now those really were a stupid, useless gadget. I thought "Who the hell needs a camera on a phone?"

Today my phone camera and text messaging apps are two of the most important features of my phone.

So true! My wife, my kids and my grandkids hardly ever use the phone. We txt as groups and as individuals. It's awesome even if it does get out of hand sometimes.

I'd add a browser to that mix.

Oh ya, and all the nifty machining and farming apps...

Yup, Pandora's box is wide open now!

I have a top of the line windows 11 desktop, a powerful Asus Laptop with a touch screen, and a really nice Canon Digital SLR. They hardly ever get used anymore.......

hotspot is your friend. I have my main internet go out enough that I had to learn how to use hotspot on phone. Mainly because wife works from home and has to have 100% up time and when she doesnt she hollers

Ya, we use hotspot all the time too. It's perfect for grandkids who have no phone plan of their own but have hand-me-down phones.

i do probably 95% of my email from the phone, all 3 accounts are in one easy place, i can take photos and send them almost instantly, i can receive drawings and check details right now (although that can be a pain), its much more convenient than doing it on a desktop, and i can do it now! instead of tonight

Who's phone is tiny these days ? heck mine is almost 7" long ! Its funny we went from the big phones like the Motorola brick, down to the little tiny flips, and now we are back to big, only fit in your back pocket sized phones

Mine. iPhone 5, bought it new Sep 2012. 5-3/4" corner to corner in its Griffon case. I use it for many things but not much for surfing, save catching up on the news at work during coffee & lunch. And no, I don't surf MSM sites. I don't even have a data plan for it.
