How old is my lathe?

Can I find the age of my Atlas 10-F by the ser. # on the ways? It is H18344S. .....................................Chawbeef.
AFAIK the only way to tell is to disassemble and check the dates on the bearings. If they haven't been replaced.

Most people figure it is not worth the effort unless you need to replace bearings

Thanks TB, I haven't been right into the headstock yet, I am thinking it has babbitt bearings. Would doubt they be dated, but maybe. ......................................Daniel

Daniel,

You can check this database and see if you can find serial numbers close to your own that have been dated... I think even babbitt bearings were stamped
