  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Ontario GTA West area meetup is planned for Saturday April 26th at Greasemonkeys shop in Aylmer Ontario. If you are interested and haven’t signed up yet, click here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

Wow!!! While Combo Machines are not a great idea, the Maximat is generally considered an exception. Assuming it is in good shape, with all of the included tooling (including a Multi-Fix TP!) that is an incredible bargain.

4 days on FB and still available? Still gathering deposits is my guess. But if I was close, I'd take a stab at it anyway.

While Combo Machines are not a great idea,

Gotta disagree with you there. Several of my colleagues have them and they are quite happy. Yes, by their very nature they are a bit of a compromise but sometimes they will fit in a shop where there is no space for two machines and they make someone happy. In other words, they fill an important niche. In that sense, I think they are actually a very GOOD idea.

I hear you, but with some notable exceptions the combos are compromises particularly with respect to milling: small table, limited Y travel and less rigidity than a solid column Mini-Mill. I feel that if space is limited that a vertical slide adapter on a equal-size lathe would be a better choice.

Agree to disagree?

For sure, but for the guys with one small corner in the basement it's just the thing. A huge upgrade from a lathe with a carriage milling attachment...... The thing is, most others tend to be lower end builds. The Emco's, made in Austria, are in different league than the standard mill drill. I've a MQ3100 (predecessor to the one for sale and has the advantage of box ways on the mill column) apart for reconditioning at the moment (true confessions .... it's been a very loooooong moment) and its night and day compared to being in inside a low cost offshore machine

Curious how you could mount a rotary table on a vertical slide adapter - asking for a friend;)
Give me a couple of months to whittle down my list (item #27, but not necessarily accomplishing in order and this one involves making a video so will take extra time for setup; shoulder update coming soon!) and I’ll give it a shot. However, I have a feeling that my 4” RT will be too big for my 7x16.
