HERO TIME - My Dream Lathe has Landed!

Last night, I spotted a hell of a deal on a shop sale in Forest Ontario that included a big lathe and sent the seller a message. Turns out the guy was desperate. His girlfriend had kicked him out of his own place and was selling his stuff. The timing of my call was perfect! His girlfriend was out of town on an overnight spa. Everything had to be gone before she got home later this morning!

So we worked out a deal. I move his shop for him and then I get my pick of his machines. I wanted the lathe. It's my dream machine. The only condition was that we had to get all of his other stuff out first. My pick had to go last.

HERO TIME!

I've always wanted to pull off an honest hoist like this and help out some poor smuck.

I hooked up my flat bed last night and hit the highway. My three boys met me at the 401 truck stop and off we went. Four mad men on a hero mission!

The seller met us there with the keys to the shop at 3am. I had installed some fake plates on my truck and flatbed in case she got home early or somebody takes a photo. But they were not needed.

We worked like mad men! We had the whole place cleaned out before the sun came up!

We are headed home now with my new baby! It's practically brand new! And it comes with the tailstock!

That looks like it is made by Sherline. It's their industrial line.

dude...that is awesome...you almost had me...but I remembered your photo's from the shop tour thread an thought "there is no way in hell that thing would fit along any of his walls...
but wouldn't that be a hoot in your shop...The Bride may not be as impressed as us...but I'm sure she'd get over it eventually...

A few things are free in this world.

Lathes, unfortunately, are usually not one of them. Especially the nice ones that are almost brand new.

You had me for a sec.

My first thought viewing the photo "Chicken can build his cannon now close to home"

Can you imagine the billet for that!

Not to mention the drill or the boring bar.

Has anyone heard from him lately? Usually he and I touch base by txt from time to time, but I think he got a new US phone.

Y'know...

I'm a little disappointed in the 1 April stupidity.

I'd really rather not have to endure the stuff.

Just sayin'.

And in character, if Susq had the power feed (electrical) to power up a lathe that size, he'd have had better than that one, YEARS ago!

Most of those size machines sell for less than they are worth in scrap, as they will end up at a net negative value, once you pay to haul them to the yard!
