Quoting the ad "Tired of it sitting in my garage." looks like a good deal.

Looks to be about 12x36 - maybe a bit smaller or bigger. Has 4 jaw, face plate, and steady. Looks like a few goodies. Tool chest under it might have more.

Says he knows nothing about lathes, but I see a round column mill in the background. Either he is selling that too or he is playing dumb like a fox.

Says he wants 1000. Assuming that it works, it's a nice scoop for someone near Prince Albert. Might even be worth the drive from other parts further south.

Thats a drill press, not a round column mill I think.

You might be right. I considered that too. But the column has a bigger diameter than most of the drill presses I've seen - It's even bigger than mine and mine is BIG! So I figured it's probably a mill. I just could not see anything to provide a positive ID.

Regardless, $1K for a10 to 14" lathe is a great price if it works.

The original Hercus was an Australian improved clone of the 9” Southbend. It’s hard to tell the size of this one but the apron and threading dial look like my SB.

According to a manual I have the model ATL is a 10 x 30, 1.750x8 spindle thread with a 1.062 hole.
A bit of tlc should make a really good machine.
He's asking for offers between $1k and $5k but I think it should go between $2-3k. It has the cabinet, flood cooling, I see a steady and there may be a follow rest, 3j, 4j and who knows what all is in the Kennedy (looking) toolbox.
If it was local I'd be in the truck.

South Bend never continued development of their lathes before being bought out but I'm sure they would have evolved like the rest. Boxford and Hercus were build under license from South Bend independently. Boxford being the UK version, Hercus being the Australian version. Nice thing is many parts are interchangeable between all 3 lathes.

oh daaaamn. I learnt on one of these exact models - they were manufactured in my home city! It's a great machine.

If there was any way I could get away with having another lathe around, I'd be on this in a split second, almost regardless of the cost.

Raised his price to 'highest offer over $1500'... Whatever that means.

"... . I will sell the lathe to the highest offer. A sell it today price is $3000 and I don't know if that is crazy high or low. Current high offer over $1500. ... "

ugh, that seems like it should be reported to Kijiji...
Meh.. It's a sellers market here in machinery wasteland. There is a Southbend 644A on Fecebook for 2500 in Regina right now.
3000 for the Hercus is a better deal with the stand, toolbox, tooling and chucks.

I believe the 260 denotes 260mm so approx 10".
The earlier model was known as the Hercus 9"

A total of about 20,600 made over the 2 models I think
