Grinding Parting Tool

Since I still haven't trouble shot and/or programed my VFD on my lathe ,I'll use my son's lathe, A XIMA 250mm x 550mm . I paid for half of it ! I need an adapter for a conversion from thermal coupling to thermopile for a gas heater. It's starting to get cold. It has to be exact length , so I'll part it off. Since my parting tool won't fit his lathe, I picked up a little 1/2" T-blade and holder. Do the tops of these type blades need grinding ?

Our Efel didn't have the available part . A gasfitter tried to use new gas valve but his wiring didn't work. 3 other gasfitters threw up their hands and wanted to sell us a new heater A new Jotul brand is $6.100. I studied up and looked at what the first gasfitter had tried to do. For $500, I got new parts so I can start right. More studying and great tech support. I am qualified as I'm a retired millwright/4th class power engineer. But I need that adapter !

I have always only dressed the end of T-blades to sharpen or adjust clearance angle. Rake angle is typically set by the tool holder. Make sure to reconfirm center line if you slide it in or out. I suppose you could grind into the top of the T for adding rake, but a) there isn't a lot of meat there b) I'd have to look but there could even be a bit of side rake clearance in the T protrusion itself so might mess with cutting geometry a bit?
