Time for me to say hello and update my forum friends and others who don't know me. Firstly I haven't been active in my shop for some time far too busy with health issues, although I tried to keep in touch with forum topics usually without signing in.

That said, the latter part of 2024 was a nightmare time for me and my wife aged 87 & 88. Late June family doctor sent me to a nerve specialists in Regina who determined I had Carpal Tunnel in both hands, having cortisone injections applied I can only do little bits of stuff in my shop most times it's limited. Late August my wife took a hard spill getting out of the shower, broke her left hip, badly bruised her left arm and hand, striking her her head on the floor ending up with a concussion. Recovery goes slow for my lady although we are hopeful for her trusty hands in the flower garden come spring.

So yes I'm chief cook, laundry guy, amongst all other things even though there are days I struggle with the return of water retention and blood clots in my right leg after my having four right knee replacements. Thanks to my trusty pointed end cane. Winter, cabin fever combined with the stress of looking after my girl of 65 years has taken it's toll on me. At least I recognize the cause, working on solutions constantly. Colitis issues of some 30 years back reared it's ugly head so I have my hands full trying to keep everything on even keel, there's no going back to good old times. Tie this in with my not sleeping properly and you get the bigger picture. Our son here in Moose Jaw does most of the snow shoveling although I just cleared a large area (with our snow blower) for our wee doggy in the back yard shortly after lunch today. Yes there are times I'm down and out having enough of it yet I haven't given up, that's not my style!

Taking each day at a time, getting old is NOT for sissies my friends.

We live in the best country on earth, and spring is just around the corner. Sandhills cranes and a vigilant eagle to make you smile. Photos taken this week by members of a Pacific Northwest birding group.

Dusty, I have a ways to catch up to you but I am far enough along the trail to see where it leads and I dread my last day in the shop. If I could offer you to join me vicariously in the shop I would, but then again that could just as likely put you over the edge.
Take care of yourselves.

@jorogi very nice offer much appreciated, thank you! My day usually starts around 6.30 am where I'm up making breakfast for my wife the love of my life, doggy comes next then myself. Bit of a break for me to check emails, grocery list, banking needs etc. By 11.00am I'm back in the kitchen making a light hot meal for my wife and feeding the dog, didn't mention that I'm far from being a cook although I get by with no complaints or nasties from the boss at supper. Phew, smoked that one by her! Then off to bed by about eight, makes for a long day.

Sold my big lathe and mill/drill last summer, only have my smaller hobby lathe, mill/drill, horizontal saw, belt sander, grinder, hand tools of all sorts. Not counting my table and band saws, planer etc.

My mind is good says I. Can manage most projects safely however, the moment I start injuring myself or breaking tools that's the time I shall call it quits. Playing safe in my shop comes from my air force training and it stuck like shit on a stick.

Have you ever been to Puna-Puna while flying Tiger Moth's . LOL

You have been one of my role models for quite some time @Dusty. Not many guys on here like you that are older than me. Just a handful. You inspire me.

Cool that your girl can eat what you cook. Mine would starve on my cooking!

Four knee replacements!!! That's got to be a world record!

Well I guess I'm done, kinda figured when when I stopped breaking myself and hurting the tools........you know, leave on high note.
You lost me on the Puna-Puna and I never got to fly a Tiger Moth but always wanted to. There used to be one locally and it was always fun to watch him do circuits on the grass in fields. Never flew (or saw) a Fox Moth either and that would be the one for me.

Wishing you and your Wife all the best Dusty. Hopefully she makes a complete recovery. Concussions can be tricky, and each one different. But they can be recovered from. Usually just takes time.

Days are getting longer, and the snow will start to melt before you know it. Brighter and warmer days ahead to plant that garden.

Hope you and your wife get feeling better soon. Glad that you have someone to help with the snow clearing. That is a big chore most years, this year has been even bigger with the snow dumps and winds we have been getting.

@whydontu while stationed over-seas with the air force during the Cold War we were transferred to #2 Fighter Wing, Grostenquin, France, (West of Mets, France closer to the Russian border back then).

Was employed with 423 Squadron that flew the older CF-100 commonly referred to as the Clunk by aircrew. When the nose gear tucked after take off the gear would go ca-lunk as heard inside the aircraft by crew members. 423 Squadron Headquarters housed a rather large bald eagle in a plastic case. Magnificent bird that's for certain.

Have a read on RCAF 423 Squadron here.
