so I have to ask why then:

Head stock recently rebuilt with new gear shaft bearings and seals.

Was this abused?

I paid 1500 not too many years ago for what appears to be the identical machine in nearly new condition (one electrical issue which must have baffled the PO, but turned out to be an easy fix) with only the standard included tooling, no DRO, but identical down to the cover on the "power" lamp which was also missing on mine when I got it.

Busy Bee and KMS for example have equivalent lathes new for $5999. Not with the DRO, QCTH, etc, of course. Subtract the value of all the (also used) included tooling and I think you're still looking at a used lathe that is overpriced. But yes, it looks pretty clean!
