For those that understand DC motors better than me

So it appears I've fried something on my variable speed Craftex 10x22 lathe. It's not fuses and I don't believe its the motor as I don't seem to have power going to motor.

My question....which is harder on the electronics/ motor ....running it slow and making it work hard or running it fast and making it do the same work? The speed controller tries to keep the speed fairly constant no matter the load. I was hesitant to run my lathe at high speed as I'm swinging a big 6.75" diameter of fairly hard stuff.

I understand It is not uncommon for these machines controller panel to fail. I would love to eliminate mine in favour of a resistor switch for fear of the same, hope someone here has some advise :(

Oh good to know. Now I just have to figure oit which is the controlller panel and how to get parts. Ordering parts from Busy Bee is almost the most frustrating and futile thing I ever attempt.

You might be better off buying a 3rd party PWM controller that you can get support for. It isn't likely the replacement part from Busy Bee will be any more reliable, either. -- Can you see the voltage/current rating of your motor?

Yes that I can ! (not much else electrical stuff that I can do tho !)
My motor is a 750 watt, 8.3 amp, 90 volt DC .

I'll ask a few friends with more experience than I about DC PWM controllers, and who is the best source in Canada. It might not be the right answer, but on the other hand If I don't ask we'll not find out!
