Fixing a solid rubber tire

Family member brought their electric Scooter over to see if I could repair the rear tire.

The repair is meant to be temporary until the replacement tire is available.

They use the scooter to get to work where parking is a nightmare.

After some online research I decided to give this product a try:

Opened up the crack with finishing nails and cleaned with Isopropyl alcohol.

Injected as much adhesive as I could into the opening and then clamped it together.

30 seconds for initial bond and 24 hours to fully cured.

I will leave it clamped overnight.

I’d like to know how many kms it takes to bald and crack a scooter tire and then decide it’s not done yet lol….

The doneness is 100% agreed upon by all involved parties.

But I was asked to try and make a temporary "get me by until..." repair. The individual realizes I ain't promising nuthin' with regards to how well the repair will work.

Nonetheless, I am super curious to see how well the adhesive holds up.

Some people like to push the limits on things that I would never risk. My wife's friend drives a vehicle that has a tire that is constantly losing air. Instead of repairing or replacing they just keep adding air almost everyday.:(

Not knocking the effort, simply the worth of the effort.

Personally I feel some things are best left “unfixed” and may prove as a learning experience for others. I.E. Don’t run your gear into the ground and you won’t be walking……

No offense taken.

Just heard from him regarding the scooter - first trip to work and the tire repair held 100%. Interesting on 2 fronts - the repair held up and will this delay him getting the replacement tire?:)

Warning: 'bout to git Philly-sofa-call

Technically, nothing is "permanent" it's all temporary.

But when you get a flat tire on the road and put that "little donut" tire on you should know it's not meant to be used to go visit your friend Bubba for a beer and then later take Mary-Lou to the drive-in.

I have known several people who put the donut on and left it there; fortunately not a front tire, particularly FWD.

I used to work with a guy who left a spare on for a few weeks and finally got pulled over for it. Then the officer noticed the child in the car seat wasn't secured properly. Then noticed the Rockstar in the centre console with the liquor store receipt on the passenger seat. Then saw the handle of a large knife sticking out. Went from a traffic stop warning to a DUI charge, endangering a child and concealed weapons charges. So yeah, best not to drive too long on them
