  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. Feed wheel?

It's just (very) unusual to see less-than-big lathes pop up on the used listings here, and yesterday there were two, so I thought I'd post them here.
A very quick read on the web about this lathe indicated that it is less capable than the Sieg 7x14 I have. But it is cheap, so might get somebody started.
 
It's in the same class as the 109 Craftsman. The feed wheel is on the right end of the lead screw. I think this is the first time I've seen a gate valve handle used to run the compound on a lathe.
The Atlas 618 is a much better lathe but try and find one for $300.

I've only recently started looking at ads for used lathes and milling machines. Compared to woodworking equipment, machine shop tools seem to 'lead a hard life' - they all look like they were dragged down the road a piece.
 
Don’t pick on Sears / Atlas etc. lathes. My first lathe was a Toyo ML210. Swapped it for a Atlas 618, similar to this one. In a few years, using the Atlas, I earned enough money doing thread to socketweld modifications of pipe fittings that I was able to but a brand new Grizzly G4015 combo machine. I was getting paid $3 an end to machine 1/2” NPT couplings. Could do 20 pieces an hour, pretty good return on time in 1990.
