Deal or not a deal?

Hi folks.
As you may noticed I am on the market for tool & cutter grinder. Not that I really need it, it is more that I just want it - I would, probably, will have lifetime endmill and cutter supply for the price of the decent cutter grinder.
Here is the local guy, likely small machine dealer, that is selling Clarkson cutter grinder and he is ready to add radius grinding fixture fro 100CAD (separate price is 300CAD) .

Wondering - is it worth the price?

I have an Osborn which is essentially same as Clarkson. Love it. Like any T&C grinder, spindle condition and tooling makes the machine. You’ll need centers, work heads, other fixtures and many different types of blade cutter rests. If this is a bare machine it’s price is a little optimistic imho.

If I had space, a Cinci #2 or better yet a tooled up Monoset would be my dream.

Some (many?) tools I own because it gives me satifaction to be able to "do it myself", not because I save any money be doing it myself. If you want to develop the skill and have the ability to sharpen end mills, it's "worth it". If you just want sharp end mills, and the cost of the thing would be equivalent to a life time supply of sharp end mills... Well, there's your answer.

I was just looking at that!

I can vouch for the seller as well, I bought a magnetic chuck from him when I was in Ottawa a few months ago. I somewhat dubiously sent him a deposit on it, but all went well. He happily showed me his little machine shop in his basement apartment! He also had some really cool parts he’d made while working for (I think) the National Research Council.

The TCG looks like it’s at his work (saves you having to wrestle it up the stairs).

A grinder is useless without grinding fixtures. The fixtures are hard to come by and tend to be stupid expensive because of the limited supply.

I can't tell what the radius fixture is worth because it could be anything.

The clarkson is supposed to come with a universal grinding head and 1" bore holder, brackets w/ centers for grinding between centers, and a bunch of other items. Optionally air spindles or such for grinding flutes. Tooling will double your cost easily.

If I had 1100 bucks to drop I'd buy something else, wait for an auction with a T&C grinder with tooling.

You don't need justify it to us :) I think it's important to have; both for economics and quality of work. Like the woodworkers mantra, you have to be able to sharpen your own tools

For me, how I use them, I'd pass on that one. To small, not really a low price and not near enough tooling - air bearing, centres etc.

I just can't board that ship. Why would anyone want to buy one that prolly works for 300 when they can make one that doesn't work for 3000? o_O
