Deal of a lifetime?

I think I just got really lucky.

Spotted an ad yesterday for a First LC-1 1/2 marked for parts/scrap.

Looked at the photo and the mill didn’t look all that old or tired, description said there’s a problem with the head, sounds like a bag of marbles when it runs. Otherwise no issues.

Now here’s the kicker, fine print in the description said “help me move my new mill and you can have it for free”. Chatted with the guy today. It’s a small fab business and they can’t afford the down time for repair so they found another used mill nearby to buy.

Heading out there tomorrow morning with a trailer and my machine moving stuff.

Even if this thing turns out to be a lost cause I can scrap it and still not be out a dime.

Wow! How do you manage to sit at a desk or at the table for dinner? That horse shoe of yours must be quite painful!

Awesome for you! I can't imagine that the issues it has are not worth fixing. Lots and lots of parts out there!

Toronto Builder is in Pickering. But he has been having health issues so he hasn't even been active on the forum lately. Pretty sure he wouldn't even want to watch.

Nice score! The kind folk tales are made from.

A variable speed head too, I paid $ for my LC1-1/2 and didn’t get that! What are the odds that the head noise is worn out sheave bushings.

Keep us in the loop on the triage.

EDIT: Those little dually trailers are great for moving that size of mill.

Or better yet, a worn out belt! I've seen that!

@Rauce - there are a bunch of cool tricks for getting that thing apart when the time comes. Don't drive yourself crazy when you hit a wall. Post and ask about it. Good odds one of us has been there and done that!

I Just E-mailed @Rauce the IPC for his machine and after skimming through it I'm not sure that the bushings in the discs are replaceable like a BP so hopefully I'm not right about loose bushings being the culprit. Maybe Long Chang/First's repair concept replaces the whole sheave?

Anyhow, I'm speculating before he even has a chance to run 'er up.

On the edge of my chair - ;)
