Changed Internet, and TV providers... that was easy for once

I left Vmedia, because they screwed up too many times, their support is terrible and they just dont give a damn. The employees are all working in an Indian call center and openly seem mocking and contemptuous, as if their previous job was at a scammer.

But what is truly unforgiveable is that they refused to accommodate my hearing impairment by providing support via their own chat system, or even text. They refused to even notify me when they fixed an issue that had been ongoing for over a week. They said to keep checking back for an update to their App. When I said that they store doesn't tell users the version number they said just download and install the app every day until they have the revised app that works.

For over a week I kept informing them, IF you keep providing poor support I am leaving. They laughed and couldn't give two poops. Then when I had to call in because they only allow you to cancel over the phone they took 3 hrs to answer the phone. Then the gave me the run around thru 3 departments like a sleazy used car dealer... each employee kept offering me discounts to stay. I kept saying I warned you that I was not going to accept the poor service it wasn't an issue of money. Finally I just kept repeating "I have already signed up with a new provider, I want to cancel my service right now" until it dawned on them.

That didn't stop them from repeatedly calling me back afterwards.

The beauty is I went back to an old provider teksavvy who now has TV too. I was told that my android TV boxes would not work with their app, but they in fact do. They may not be 100% compatible but they work for regular TV channels okay as far as I can tell.

I used same SSID and password so all my devices connected flawlessly to the new network perfectly. Maybe I can finally get my POS garage door opener to connect and work via the APP

I now have a spare wireless router, which I may see if I can add as a range extender, and a roku box to sell.

Depends on the make and how old it is.

Easiest thing is prolly to make it a new wireless network and save your credentials so it can switch automatically. Just pick a new SSIN and set a channel at least 3 away from your other one. That's how I do my barn network. It's easy peasy and virtually seamless.

yeah, that sounds good.

So If I am thinking correctly, I can run ethernet from the main modem/router to the old router and then the old router gets set as separate network. I can assign it a reserved IP address in the primary router.

Most wireless routers can be configured to act like a wireless access point (WAP). Then you don't need to set a reserved IP or worry about conflicts. Just give it a new SSID (eg TorontoBuilder and TorontoBuilder2 ans then just connect to both and set autoconnect. As you wander around, your devices will select between the networks as needed.

Extenders are better because you don't have to lose one to switch to the other and you don't need an ethernet cable to connect them. Both ends get connected to regular ports because they act like switches.

Mesh is better still because the entire network gets stronger and you can use the second unit as a wired node too and you can also use a wired connection as a backhaul.

But it does work and doesn't force you into new hardware.

You will need to run an ethernet cable from the first router to the WAP.

both my new combined modem/router and the old router have mesh. I guess I need to read more before next spring.

wife wont be sitting outside much until then so I dont need to hear complaints about poor net reception as she sits outside

Rant ON....

Good for you for moving on. I did the same for both insurance and an Investment account at TD because of dismal customer support.

About 10 years back I was executor for a well-off aunt that had a large investment account at TD. At the time it was near impossible to get anyone on the line to make a trade. Waiting an hour on the phone was the norm. I complained multiple times, nothing, I then sent an email to their client complaint department stating that I would move the entire amount to another institution if I did not get a response within a week. Nothing, so I moved everything ~10M to another institution. Three months later the complaints department contacted me to ask if everything was fine? I guess they were too busy with their US expansion for small potatoes clients?

Rant off...
