My first thought was good luck, but then again it is insane what these are now fetching. One of the new style just went for 3300 on ebay.... I thought that was what they are new?!.

I'd be cautious on the blue ones as I understand parts are no longer available for that model.
 
New black ones are over (gasp) $4000 C. Untooled.

Green ones, some parts are available, most if willing to do a little leg work and get a Metabo jigsaw for parts. Got to say, there’s plenty of green ones, imho, so that’s a high price for a blue. Personally I wouldn’t buy a blue, just took much risk.

Man, I'm actually shocked these haven't attracted the attention of Eastern replicators. There just HAS to be some ROI for a similar product. I've seen some exploded views of Biax - OK there are few unconventional parts & assemblies & motor controls to do what they have to do. And they seem built like a tank. But still... I have power Makita tools that look about as complex for a couple hundred, not a couple thousand. I realize its a numbers game, scraping is a small splinter of population. Still, 4K is insane.

I agree, 4k seems beyond excessive. Small splinter yes, but there's the law of demand ..... might sell 100x as many if they were $350.

I'd argue that because they use Metabo motors, they have in part become a cheap/poorly made in china tool .... it just hasn't shown up in the price (based on what is happening at Metabo since KKR bought them, and some poorly made in China Metabo parts I recently bought).

I've a blue and a green. Green is currently not working, second fal. Currently its the little circuit board I think and previously I had to replace the motor switch connector (again, Metabo). The blue otoh, god knows how old it is, just keeps on trucking. I do not know how they thought the green was an improvement, should have not changed what worked. Still, I'd be challenged to see that price for it ...when it breaks its likely done.

Hey if it does break I would be keen to buy it lol, I do enjoy a good struggle.

But ye for how "complex" they are and the advancements of manufacturing biax must have a huge price margin on the things. As the motor is probably 100$. And I can't see that parts being more then 1000$ but I guess being a low batch thing and made in Europe maybe they aren't making any money of the units?
 
On the green Biax 7’s (probably black as well?) the motor is common to several other tools. Heavy bits in front of motor may well be expensive and small manufacturing runs, but motor? Doubt if it was over $20 to make. And thank goodness other tools used same motor. Cheaper tools to raid for needed parts during rebuilds! :)

Yeah. I'm also of the camp "if another human can do it, I can". But you have to pick your battles. It's been awhile since I had one apart, but remember it looking challenging - helical gears and lots of what I suspect is hardened and ground. It'd be a challenge and it seems often enough one comes up for 400-500.
