Recently took this down to the USA, made in Canada.

Would the large pieces be cast? That frigging thing is heavy and a finger pincher. I gather it's to be mounted to a post and a rope hitched to it. I can't think of how any of those large pieces would be machined?

Yup I'd bet cast as well. In front of our school is the old bell that used to be the school bell and it is cast and id guess it probably weighs 500lbs?

How do you "finish" brass? Is it like polishing aluminum with a buffing pad and clay bars?

When I was a teenager, that was one of my weekly chores. Polish the brass with Brasso and polish the silver with Silvo.

Yup polish it with friction and light abrasive. A paste wax will prolong the shine before it oxidizes again. A clear coat can be used for lasting protection against the process but bin mg opinion does not look as nice as plain old polished brass.

Brasso yes (try to get the real stuff - I got mine on Amazon sourced from the UK), but first check to see if there is any clear coat and strip that first.
