I know there are some fans of old Canadian made machinery here. IMO you can't beat the look of these old Beaver tools. Almost tempted to replace my 14" delta with this.....
 
I have one. They have a resaw capacity of 7" instead of the usual 6". Their guide set up is better than the Delta and clones. That is nice one with rip fence . It looks like a Callender Foundry one . After '52 they were owned by Rockwell Delta and made up to the '60s.
 
I love it. My old beaver drill press is a diamond. I'd have one of those in a heart beat if it were nearby. It would have to get converted to metal capability though.
 
That sold quick. I put it on the watch list, thinking that if it was still there in a couple weeks when I started trade school downtown I'd grab it on the way home one day.

I don't use my Delta much anymore (or any of my woodworking machines), but in the next couple weeks, I'm going to push to clean up the barn and get my woodworking tools/shop all setup up again to use. Then I'll start the quest to replace some of my lower quality tools with better versions. By the end of the summer, I want a functioning woodworking shop setup, much like my metal shop in the garage. Right now, and for the past decade +, everything back there has been in shambles......
 
Susquatch, it wouldn't have been a good candidate for metal cutting, the column can flex, it's an aluminum box. I use a post for a brace when I resaw. The cast iron Delta and clones are a better candidates for conversion. Even they with the spacer don't do 12" resaw worth a damm.
 
I laugh about the option for a 6" riser block for my 14" delta. Falls under the category of just because you can, doesn't mean you should. I'm sure under the right circumstances there are people out there that love it though.....

Had trouble choosing an emoticon. Sad to hear of your co-worker. Happy to be reminded that a bandsaw for wood can handle aluminium.

Thing is that I have a metal cutting bandsaw. Not a big one, but it works. And ya, it mostly cuts aluminium. I'd like a nice big one for wood but you are right, how much steel would I really cut?
