I've asked the OP for everything he can find out about included tooling.

I wish I could buy this and the excello, but I can't. Hope a member here can

Any idea how much (and if its even reasonable to consider) to ship such a thing to the west coast?
IMO the price is such that it may be worthwhile to pursue shipping cross country. By truck. Look up LTL (less than load) rates

Having said that, that prospect would require the vendor to palletize the lathe, and crate accessories and make ready for easy pick up by the shpper. I would not expect that to happen.

Shipping seems possible. To take it a step further, reasonable to get a reputable member in the area to inspect and palletize for a fee?

This is probably one of the only lathes I say perhaps try to see if you can manage to get it shipped out west. So I wish you the best.

My experience with long distance shipping, says that if you can get it properly bolted down onto a suitable Pallet, as well as get it wrapped (not hard, you buy the wrap from a Packing supplies place and walk circles around said machine) that the various truckers are a lot more willing to talk to you.

I used a Freight Broker and got a quote for a 4000 pound machine, from Bagotville Quebec to Cold Lake Alberta, some dozen years back, at 1900 dollars. Was actually more than I paid for the machine! Still a good buy!) Factor changes in fuel costs since then, and you are likely looking at +/- $5K, but it doesn't hurt to make a couple calls to various brokers.

We use Manitoulin at my work for our heavy stuff from Ontario. They have good rates, and timely service.
I think it was under 500 bucks to have two, Meritor differential center sections with lockers shipped to us.
For reference, that's just shy of 1200 lbs on two skids.
It was definitely under a week to get to Kelowna.

as a counter argument - I have a machine of similar caliber (holbrook minor) and similar cosmetic condition that's like 30 years newer and given how beat this monarch looks is I wouldn't say it's super worth shipping across the country

having a cool lathe is cool but it's kinda cheesy going through alot of effort to have a hammered machine that turns tapers...

as with anything, condition is everything. However, as cool as a Holbrook is, only the 10EE has the cache that collectors and serious restorers really really want. Is the person's interest in a lathe or a Monarch 10EE?

Frankly, I wanted a Chipmaster lathe, I passed on dozens of newer shinier lathes because I wanted quality lathe as the foundation for a full restoration and one that would look extra sharp when completed. Who knows this fellows motivation since it is yet unstated.

Thanks, really appreciate all the comments.

Timing isn't great for me and with the logistics involved I'm going to give it a couple days and see if its still available, I'm guessing someone will show up with cash and a trailer in short order and that will be that, but we'll see.

If nothing else, I've learned a bunch and will be better equipped for next time as the ability to jump quickly is critical on these sales.

Intention is to get a heirloom lathe of this size, doesn't need to be a 10ee but they seem to be at the top of that list, some restoration work doesn't concern me but would prefer not to start with something that is functional even if out of spec.

Thanks again all and hope this goes to a member, maybe even me if the stars align....

so yah know, what you have to say is only really relevant if you make an offer to sell your lathe.

Lets make a deal.

I guess the point I'm trying to make is - at 4500$ and 1-2k for transport I'd suggest holding out for a better example. that amount of money, to spend on a machine sight unseen, doesn't seem like a deal or "half price". just my opinion! if you are local and can go kick tires and lowball sure, it's a different scenario.

motivation, for sure. like I got into machining to modify and fix cameras, and ever since I moved my lathe out of my kitchen and gotten bigger machinery I've actually accomplished less on that front because so much of my time is spent just working on the shop. I've been thinking about this alot lately and it really bothers me - I feel like the hobby of having a shop has really distracted me from the real goal of making cool stuff, and now that I have a cool shop with cool machines I don't have much to show for it.

took a look through the ole screengrabs folder and here's one for the lols (from june of this year)
of all of the super beans lathes 10ees are more common, maybe that's a factor of why they're worth more money but there's alot of them out there
