From time to time members mention AliExpress and Banggood for tooling etc. Accessing AliExpress isn't a problem however connecting and searching Banggood is. What's up with that ?????

Yes I can connect with the official Canadian Banggood website then I come to a shuddering stop. The moment I attempt a search for an item the page(s) always come up empty of item images even though it appears to be loading with the header bar showing I am now connected to their England web site.

Surely one doesn't need to sign in to Banggood before you can view items of interest ?????

Leary of falling into a website scam would appreciate comments and advise from others as too what's up with this ?????

I don't have much Bangood experience so am a bit biased, but personally I found it a bit more difficult to search, at least for hobby/machining type items vs. AliExpress. Both can be challenging at times with the language. But I feel like Ali has maybe more commercial / light industrial representation when it comes to machine tooling. Sometimes (in both cases) you will see what appears to be the same thing across many 'stores'. One might be from CNC-r-Us, next will be Beautiful Home Supply. There is no rhyme or reason. So I try to stick with a 'hardware' type supplier for no other reason than a gut feel they might be a degree separation closer to the manufacturer. Sometimes (I've heard) the factory rejects or baddy clones are more prevalent in the more obscure shops, but you have no way of knowing. I think most of these home entrepreneurs are just playing the margin game like the N-Am Amazon equivalents. They may not even know much about what they are selling.

I can say that Ali takes their ratings & satisfaction seriously. If something arrives broke or defective or amiss, you file a claim & it gets dealt with swiftly between Ali & seller. You can upload pictures with description to explain. I've only had a few to contend with, less than 5% of purchases. Equal or better than Ebay actually. Its better now than it was but I'm also more selective. I set up payment to come off my credit card so its really click & buy. I don't get any secondary spam. Some people use a secondary credit card dedicated to online shopping with low/max withdrawal limit. I'm not sure what the coverage rules are anymore. They used to cover proven scams but now I think less so or more involved? Some people use Paypal as the default payment (which can then draw off your credit card anyways if you collect purchase points for example) to give secondary layer of protection. My Ebay account is set up this way but really more because Ebay really pushes PayPal & I just left it that way. I found their remediation process somewhat sluggish though.

What is scary is I'm getting items as fast or faster from from Ali (usually China or related countries) than Ebay FOB USA in some cases. Its not for everything but I certainly feel I have gotten value out of them. It always pays to check prices & vendor rating though. It still can be a crap shoot, but no different than bringing something home from Canadian Tire.
 
I’ve never had a problem with Banggood.
I ordered a QCTP for my mini lathe from them. Arrived quickly and was good quality.

Never ordered from Aliexpress but I’ve been tempted to buy mill from Alibaba.

My only experience is on banggood. Search works fine for me... We can take this offline and I can help you resolve that problem: it is likely browser settings issue.

I really like shopping at banggood, and have learned to find most everything quickly. In some areas, selection is limited for a metal hobby, however. still some great deals! My current cart has 40 items in it (!!)

I've searched alibaba quite a few times, and my experience is of too many options, and it is hard to figure out which one I want!
 
AliExpress demands a login for me. Started happening after ordering my mill DRO's from them early last year. I'm suspicious of that and haven't used them since.
 
The Pros and Cons in using AliExpress and Banggood is exactly what I was looking for.

Firstly I would rather error on the side of 'CAUTION' than end up with egg all over my face. Yes the problem may be as simple as my browser settings and yes I do have a computer wise family member who will check this out for me. Thank you kindly for your offer Dabbler appreciate that.

Yesterday I celebrated my 82nd birthday perhaps I consumed too much coffee and chocolate cake. Yes coffee although my preference is great-grandpa's pop but not with cake! Bill

Do you have more than one browser setup on your machine? Try another browser. I tried your link and it worked fine for me in all three browsers.


I've used Ali and Banggood with similar results. Always good. Price is what directs me to one or the other. I do follow a couple of the tips above.

On the Bangood site I find machine stuff with the manufacture name "DrillPro" seems to be pretty good for the price. Also I always try to order everything from the same store front. If I can find a store that has all the items I'm looking for I pick that store front. I also look at what other items the store is selling . Some stores seem to only sell machining stuff. Others sell everything from milling bits to babies socks. (Guess which stores I buy from).

Oh, and I always pick the free shipping option on each item. (Sometimes it is not displayed, but clicking on shipping and then it shows the free option) I noticed once on Banggood I missed picking the free shipping on one item and it defaulted the full order to pay shipping.

Yup, it was Machifit brand. Steve Jordan did an unboxing of it that Banggood features.

Hi list, thanks to Hrull and Tom O for their birthday wishes. Here I am at 82 trying to learn something of what my father knew of in machining. You see father was a Die setter for Stanley Steel in Hamilton, Ontario and definitely knew his way around tool room gear.

As for my computer settings and not being able to run Banggood properly. My PC was set up using Microsoft 10 with the default app being MS Edge. That was changed from Microsoft Edge to Google Chrome and my browser switched from Google to Google Chrome.
Banggood now loads without issues hopefully this will help someone else.

Opinion:
According to my computer guru Microsoft simply will not listen to advice from IT guys in the field. Windows 10 is not without it's shortfalls folks.

Hey Bill (and a belated Happy 82nd) My Dad worked at Stelco, Hamilton for 43 years! I grew up in Burlington - small world!

Windows 10 is shite. I'd happily revert back to Win 7 Enterprise (I still have 10 licenses for it), but 7 won't run on current hardware. (I tried. Hard.) I finally managed to stop it from ever updating. That was hard work.

I use Firefox (latest) and have no problem. M$ browsers are a crap shoot - I removed all M$ built-in apps when I installed Win 10 - mainly because I have a very under-powered computer that won't run them! So it is interesting that Edge won't work on Banggood... sorry, but not sorry - won't fix an Edge problem.
 
I was a slowpoke to convert to Chrome from Windows Exploder. It solved so many issues I was thinking was the website or updates or me or phase of the planets. Every once in a while I have to MS-Explorer at work for certain apps & it just seems so...dated. MS-Edge I don't know much about but it doesn't strike me as great on first pass. Win-10 will probably be in my life soon enough & yes I've heard all about the bendover updates. Its more than 5 years old & Win-7 support is going bye-bye soon. Computers are a blessing & evil all in one.

I had a very similar experience and against my better judgment wound up providing carefully edited images of my driver's license and Visa card to prove my identity.
