Calgary & area meet up Spring 2024.

Thanks all for contributing to a great event. Too many to list - so I won’t bother as I am sure I’ll forget someone. Unfortunately I did not get to show the dividing head as I (we all) got severely sidetracked… If there is demand, I can leave it set-up for a bit and demonstrate it on an...

Tool Cathetometer - sounds like a medical device!

Thanks for educating me on the proper name and function of “that thing in the corner” behind my late @Chipper5783. Much appreciate your pictures. Now I just have to find the missing parts for my Catheotometer…

    draw bolt rod

Glad to be of help. For the ones that are concerned about alignment of a weldment: one can always turn a ”pin” on one part and a close fitting socket on the other. Chamfer each well (weld prep), stick them together and weld around the circumference. Turn down the excess weld and you should have...

    draw bolt rod

How about a grade 8 bolt (or similar strength) welded onto any type of steel rod? As has been mentioned, it is the threads that take the most abrasion and thus lose form fastest. If they wear out, cut off the bolt and weld a new one on. You’d be back in business right away.

    ER40 collet chuck

Hopefully I understand you correctly… you are saying that if you were to take off the nut (red arrow) , you can not just slide the combo gear off the shaft and turn it around? Have you tried it? That gear has a 6203-2RS bearing in it. The axle runs through the inner race. The bearing / gear...

    ER40 collet chuck

@Brian H : do you mind doing a little experiment? 1) can you take the 91T/86T combo gear and turn it around 180* on it’s shaft so that the 91T portion is closest to the headstock (opposite to the way you have it in your picture in post #13 above) 2) mesh the 45T ”F” input gear with the 91T...

    ER40 collet chuck

I believe those compound gears are used for feed reverse. Looking at the main gear table in the manual, both are 45T/40T (40T/45T) combos meshing with a 45T on the spindle. I would think that it is physically impossible to install them “backwards” because of their size difference.

    ER40 collet chuck

Is this how you measured the 1” carriage travel when you did your “pitch validation” as you posted in #68 above? I can see your method to be a bit problematic: a) typically, one does not use a 1” capacity DI to measure a one inch distance; you should use a 1.5” or 2” capacity one b) the...

    WTB: Prvomajska Milling Machine

Hi Andreas, welcome to the forum. We met at the auction just south of Olds a few weeks back. You were getting ready to load out the lathe while is was waiting for the forklift to move the pallet of steel by the mill. If you can make it, we have a meet up at my shop on April 20. You are welcome...
