Completely separate from this thread/task I’m now inspired to build a micro lathe based on my dremel. Probably have to make it CNC just because it’s more complicated. My family will thank you for giving me yet another project.

No, see the problem with this idea is that it's both too simple and also doesn't require me to spend money on highly specialized tools and equipment and/or someone who has specialized tools and equipment. :D This is great. I will definitely try that. I already have m2 screws of a similar size...

The shoulder on these only goes down to 3mm length. I could take that and attempt to tap the thread further then cut the thread to length. Wonder how that’d do.

The m2 of this be very close. May order some just in case.

This is a good point. As long as it’s m2 thread I could file down the head or cut the thread to length with hand tools… it’s really the shoulder that complicates it.

Yes that needs to mate. Essentially it mounts a slider for the zoom that rotates as it slides. The thread goes into the body and the slider (plastic slider with metal washer, lubricated) is stabilized by the shoulder. These screenshots are from disassembly of the same lens from a youtube...

Haha! I’ve been using various forms of CAD since the 90s so I actually find this easier than drawing it on paper (because my drawing skills are terrible so it would be both unrecognizable and unreadable)

You'd think it was torx the way the stripped head looks :D but yes it doesn't matter what type of driver
