    BXA toolholders

Shortly after buying my current lathe, a Chinese copy of the Aloris BXA QCTP was purchased as a set. I paid the minimal extra for the wedge style. The toolpost I got in the set does work reliably, but the wedges are a poor fit in the main body and have a terrible canting action in use. The...

    Quill issues in Bridgeport clone

Part 176 moves axially (left and right). I presume it means that shaft 166 is moving the same amount.

    Quill issues in Bridgeport clone

I'll have to take it apart to see. After watching more videos it doesn't look so bad. The auto-feed mechanism had me worried. Now I believe the circlip has come off the shaft allowing it to migrate to the right. Either the pinion gear pushing the quill up and down is coming off the rack...

    Quill issues in Bridgeport clone

There appears to be a circlip on the other side that should secure shaft #166 above. (Thanks to H&W Machine Repair and Rebuilding for the images!) The shaft won't pull out but it does feel like it's not located properly.

    Quill issues in Bridgeport clone

On the weekend I was using the 9x49 clone and had some issues with the quill feed. This is the manual feed on the right hand side, not the power feed on the left side. Attempting to drill holes in the same fashion as a drill press, I noticed that the manual quill feed would catch or hang up...

Craig, that is a very generous offer! I might take you up on that. I'll have to dig out the old Meca universal dividing head!

SM change gears - Imperial 1120 for metric gears

Thanks! The shipping is as much as the gear, but I may be in the UK later this year!

SM change gears - Imperial 1120 for metric gears

I had considered that. 16DP 14.5PA gears aren't easy to come by or won't be cheap. I'm leaning towards making my own to save a few hundred dollars.

SM change gears - Imperial 1120 for metric gears

I placed an order for a set of steal mini lathe gears. The set of 27 gears includes all the change gears I need except the 127T. Since they are all Module 1 20PA it will be easy to get different ones in the future too. That leaves the 48T and 68T 16DP 14.5PA gears to find since they need to...
