  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

Tips/Techniques Painter's Tape - the Swiss Army knife of tape

No disrespect intended to the great Red Green but painter's tape is in my opinion even more versatile than duct tape. Keep in mind, a lot of the ways I have used painter's tape you might think, "I can do that with almost any type of tape". But the key feature is when you are done using it you...

    Tool 2 kits of bits

Today my wife brought home a pair of garden pruners from work where somebody had mistakenly reversed the locking lever. The lever had an uncommon screw head. To the master kit I go and of course I got it. The two kits of bits don't see the light day often but when I need to deal with an out...

    Thinking of contacting Klein Tools

I know there are some smart electronics people here. Thought I would see if anyone would like to try and hazard a guess as to what is going on with this Klein Tools RT250 GFCI tester. To help show what is going on I made a Youtube video (see link below). Keep in mind 4 things: (1) I am...

Tool Electric tool motors that require carbon brushes

Every so often I take inventory of some of my older tools that have integrated electric motors which use carbon brushes. I check to see how much carbon is left and decide if I need to get ready for replacements or maybe just get them to have on hand. Depending on the age of the tool I know it...

When the machining doesn't go according to plan...

...how often do you try to hide your mistakes? I am not a professional woodworker but I did spend a lot of years building numerous projects of varying degree of difficulty. One of the common sayings I heard/read in the woodworking profession was: "90% of woodworking is knowing how to fix your...
