  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Ontario GTA West area meetup is planned for Saturday April 26th at Greasemonkeys shop in Aylmer Ontario. If you are interested and haven’t signed up yet, click here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

Replacement of lead screw on Atlas 618 Lathe with 1/4-20 acme

Finding acme 1/2-20 threaded rod is non existent to repair/replace an Atlas 618 lead screw. Would 1/4-20 or 3/8-20 acme have enough strength to pull the table across? Would it also allow me to use the same gear ratios for thread cutting because it’s 20TPI only half the size? I know I would have...

    Kuhlmann GM1-2 Pantagragh

I just brought home a Kuhlmann GM1-2 Pantagragh. I haven’t had a chance to take it off the trailer yet. It didn’t come with a manual. Does anyone here have the same pantagragh mill or have a manual. I bought it to do 2D duplicating and engraving. The previous owner is a great guy but he didn’t...

New to me Atlas 618 Lathe

I was really missing my Myford ML7. I sold when I bought my South Bend 13 inch lathe. I thought I would never need a small lathe again. I was wrong. Keeping a small first or second lathe after upgrading to a larger lathe is a good idea. After looking for a while I was able to find an Atlas...

Small batch heat treaters or HT Stock

Is there anyone in the GTA that does small batch heat treating. Something made in 4140 or 17-4. I understand 17-4 is easy to air harden but I don’t have a electric kiln. I understand an option is to get 4140 HT. Not sure if 17-4 comes HT. I have annealed stock on hand so I don’t want to go...

Lathe turning on a Atlas Mill?

Has anyone here ever turned steel on a horizontal mill. In my case it will be an Atlas? I have ER32 2MT tool holder with the full range of collets for close up to the headstock for smaller diameter round bar. . I can also probably rig up a spindle adapter if I wanted to buy a small 3-4inch four...

Looking for Depth gauge parts for Buffalo 15 inch drill press

I’m looking for the depth gauge parts for an old Buffalo Forge 15 inch drill press. The parts that allow you to set the depth of the drill bit. The drill came out of the Old GE plant in Peterborough Ontario after it shut down. It’s a well built drill press that I’d like to get the parts for...

    Best cleaner for old lathe

Now that it’s above freezing in the GTA I’m going to attempt to open up my South Bend 13 lathes headstock. I want to clean and service the felts and oil pathways. I don’t know how long it’s been since they have been done. Can anyone recommend a cleaner other than brake fluid? I’m not really...

Good Morning from Durham Region Ontario

Good Morning, New Member here. Not really new to the metalworking hobby. I got into it as a way to try and repair some old air rifles and maybe try to earn a bit of side cash making parts. This allows me to justify to my Wife the cost of my hobby. Starting out with a small manual Sherline...
