  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Ontario GTA West area meetup is planned for Saturday April 26th at Greasemonkeys shop in Aylmer Ontario. If you are interested and haven’t signed up yet, click here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. Slitting saw info

Just wanted to share a helpful resource on slitting saws: https://cdn.thomasnet.com/ccp/10024682/171008.pdf Pages 13 and 14 have a bunch of good information including a table of recommended rpms based on the blade diameter and material to be cut. They also suggest that the feed rate can be up...

Hi: So, a member hooked me up with a reversing drum switch that I want to add to my Craftex mill-drill. I'm not an electrician but I believe I understand the necessary wiring...I just need a short piece of cable with at least 5 conductors plus ground to go between the switch and motor junction...

    Tool creep?

I'm still a newbie in so many ways and I managed to blow past a dimension while milling a piece of continuous cast ductile iron (Dura-Bar). I think it was tool creep but I wanted to check with the brain trust here. I needed to make a short piece about .400 thick by .750 wide and 1.600 long. I...

    DRO descends into madness

OK, it is me that is going mad; not the DRO. My mill/drill came with a Shooting Star DRO which I should probably just replace. But I'm stubborn. And cheap. Brief background. Shooting Star used a mechanical system with a rack and gear to track position. I've read that the tracking is...

    Case hardened steel

Hi: I've got a chuck of steel that appears to be case hardened. Do I have to fully anneal it to work with it? The piece is nearly 6 feet long and roughly 2-3/4" diameter. There are keyways and flats so I think this was probably a shaft in a machine originally. I ruined a bandsaw blade...
