Can you turn a drill shank down with a carbide tool bit ?

I 'll have to use a drill motor and a long 39/64 drill . With the arthritis in my hands they are not as smooth for grinding down.

    Buying from McMaster Carr

Good Morning guys .I'm working on my Delta Rockwell Toolmaker, a light duty surface grinder . On the second generation models one of the repairs is replacing the Teflon tape they used on the ways . Keith at Toolmaker Groups has kindly given me McMaster Carr part numbers. I have never ordered...

    Blind Squirrel Finds Nut

I had been a member of the Delta Toolmaker Yahoo group. I guess it folded . In searching for Toolmaker repair hints I joined a Toolmaker Facebook page. After one very innocuous post saying how happy I was having a Toolmaker grinder, even got three likes for that, I got banned. They wanted a...

    Cleaning Dials

I have a Rockwell (Delta) Toolmaker surface grinder. It's one of the second generation #24-150, a newer one even, a 1968. I bought it at our mill's closing down auction in 2014, so I'm second owner. I'm setting it up. It needs a new shaft and a bushing, nothing major, but I would like to be...

    Starting a Chinese Die

I was making some inletting pins for glass bedding three different systems. One end is threaded to match the target system and the other end 1/4' UNC for a wing nut , both sets are 1/4". The 1/4"x 32tpi, a special fine, went great. Both dies are KBC house brand made in Poland. However, KBC...

CBN Grit Sizes for Lathe Tool Bits ?

My 7" Wissota brand grinder only has general purpose wheels, a 46 and a 80. They are slow and hot for grinding bits. I gather to achieve both the surface finish and tight tolerance these parts are going to require, I should use HSS bits on my Taiwanese DF1224g . CBN wheels unlike soft A/O wheels...

    Electronics Help

This is way outside my expertise, but my question should be fairly simple . I have a Mach Tach on my lathe which is giving erratic readings . Now that it's running ! The manual says VFD interference on the power, so they suggest common mode filter EH28-1.0-02-75M-X T0836R and two capacitors...

    A Lathe Tool Bit Question

Good Morning, I hope this finds you well after last night's victory. A question at the pointy end for experts.. Yesterday I was looking for a grind that gave a good surface finish .(aren't we all) So I honed a bit carefully.I was happy enough with the sharp. It wasn't one I had ground, rather...

A Fine Day in the Neighbourhood

Finally after 10 years my metal lathe works ,sorta. The VFD and I have come to terms. It still doesn't do Jog or E-Stop. But it does do Forward,Off, Reverse and the speed adjustment pot works. To me, this is huge victory. I had used it on the power up setting for a while. It was awkward going...

    Mill/drill Z-Axis Power Feed

I noticed on a forums couple of times guys had overcome one of the mill/drills weaknesses , the lack of power down feed. They had powered the downfeed with an adapter to their cordless drill. Their adapters went on the handle like oil filter sockets, with a couple of prongs over the edges. A...
