grease for high speed precision bearings

KO Lee Tool & Cutter grinder, older model. Spindle a bit noisy, thinking the grease may just be dried out, need cleaning and re-lube. As I understand it these are a class 7 precision bearing and these could run anywhere from 1740 up to over 20K rpm for internal grinding. I've changed / greased...

How to clean inside a cylinder

Well, I know you thought it'd be fun to make one from scratch, at one point, I thought the same. Then I realized that you can buy honed ID tube and the chromed rod, made specifically for this purpose. I needed a hydraulic cylinder for a specialized purpose and there was no commercially made one...

    Interesting youtuber

I started watching this guy lately - rebuilding a Rolls-Royce Merlin engine. Was a professional aero engine rebuilder, now retired, just does it for fun now. Goes into quite a bit of depth. Quite amazing the depth they went to in the 1930's / 40's with slide rules and all manual machines.

    History (ww2)

For anyone interested in Canadians war experiences during WWII, I can highly recommend "Six War Years" by Barry Broadfoot. It's a collection of interviews and personal recollections of Canadians who either served overseas or worked in War industries 1939 - 45. Probably out of print now but may...

    Jacobs Super Chuck or clone?

Me too ! I've actually had one commit suicide. It wound itself so tight the internal threads were all boogered. A nice Rohm - that hurt ! I guess I asked for it though, driving a 2" hole saw through 1.5" aluminum plate in back gear on the mill.

    Can you drill a magnet?

I've used silicone for "glue" several times -- to glue house numbers onto a big rock outside our house -- 23 years and they're still there. If there's some "stress" on them a more upscale silicone might be required -- "The right stuff" sticks like cat poo to a blanket.

    Buying from McMaster Carr

I use my old business name (which we closed in 2016) and my residential address in Calgary, never a problem. Agree, they'll never be the cheapest but I've found obscure industrial stuff on their website that I couldn't find anywhere else. And yes their shipping is almost un-believably fast and...

    de-magnetize digital calipers

So, ran the counterfeit ones over de-mag several times, no ill effects but those ones weren't magnetized (yet). Ran the authentic ones over several times, no ill effects, removed most of the magnetism, still a slight bit magnetic but much improved and still reading as normal.
