  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Tips/Techniques Used machinery

Yes, but you won't likely get it. It will sit forever to get 500 some day maybe. Toronto might be possible, NB is the problem and the reason I suggest selling everything with the lathe. If you pull everything out of the drawers including the other chucks, faceplate, metrology, and show it all...

    Tips/Techniques Used machinery

Well as you have clarified, the mill/drill isn't just a drill press. It's also a full blown mill capable of doing complex milling work. Easily worth 1500 as a base machine. But given the peep shot of the lathe tooling, I'd bet he had the mill tooling there to support a two grand or more ask...

    Tips/Techniques Used machinery

I'd give slightly different advice. You are in New Brunswick. There isn't a big market for machine tools there. So I think selling stuff separately will be a long drawn out effort. If I were in your shoes, I'd try first to see if I could enjoy following in my dads footsteps. Being a member here...

    Improving Runout on keyless chuck?

All great comments above. I don't think anyone mentioned axial runout. Runout can vary by distance out from the chuck. A long test rod will have more runout at its end than a short one. Rather than use endmills, it is nice to have a few precision ground rods that you know are good.

Shop Garage Hoist - How it's going to kill me?

I agree with that. Longer ones won't actually increase the loads you will actually use. Pushing their length will only give you a false sense of confidence anyway. I sort of like @jorogi's idea of proof testing them with 3 times your planned maximum load. The only downside is a false sense of...

    Indicator lamp

I turn mine off, but not because of noise. Nobody would care here. But 30 years ago or so, mine blew a shutoff valve and ran all night. The motor overheated and bad things could have happened - but didn't. Ever since then I turn it off when I leave the shop. Why take needless chances? Ever since...
