Now the Colchester has a Mini Me

Ah, I see. So basically, they used good steel instead of hardened cast iron. Most lathes just have cast iron, some have hardened cast iron (like mine), and your lathe takes that up a notch with high grade hardened steel. Very cool! Prolly not intended to be a service item though.

    Magic fireplace?

A long time ago, I started using Everready batteries instead of Duracell because they are guaranteed not to leak. Spoiler - they leak too, just not as often Now I keep batteries close by but not in the device just like you do. It's a minor inconvenience compared to cleaning up a leakage...

    Tips/Techniques Staircase structural question

Had to laugh. I had a similar role at my employer. All the outside inventions went over my desk for screening. If I had a nickel for every perpetual motion machine - runs on water, spontaneous lightning, minus friction, super metal 2x as hard as diamond, etc etc. Once in a while something made...

Also got most of the Puller done. Didn't have big enough thick washers, so I decided to make them instead. Cut two 3/8 thick slices off of a 3" log of hot roll. Then used an annular cutter to cut the center out. That was easier than reversing my lathe jaws. Lastly milled out the cut. Easier that...

How do I remove the chuck backplate on Craftex CX708

I'd clock it 45 degrees and try again. I assume it's the piece we can't see that you are drilling and tapping. If I understand what you are doing, it's a good excuse to buy a set of centering punches. They come in an assortment of sizes to fit various sized holes. You pick the one that fits...

Here is the clamp ready to do its job. Prolly overkill, but better overkill now than underkill in hindsight.
