Giant metal boulder sculpture (art casting with sand molds)

Pic of the boulder sculpture looking closer to finished, David has been busy. Though the lighting doesn't make it easy to distinguish the metal pieces from the stone... Here's a profile on the artist, that's me in the background working on an experimental tree bark mold while he was being...

    Casting sand

Nice setup. I have some casting videos up on YouTube also. FYI Tim Smelko retired since you bought your sand, so the Smelko Foundry Products in Milton you knew is now called Foundry Supply Source, and they've also moved to a new address. Still in Milton though. I have an email from almost...

12 of the same plaque, or 12 different 100 word plaques? That's a lot of pattern letters... Jeff

    Casting sand

I really meant to come.back to this thread sooner! Sorry. I hope late is better than never... Do you think you might have the organoclay binder that can be used to make oil bonded sand? If so that is something I've been hunting for, for a few years. Nobody wants to sell me less than a...

    Casting sand

I've worked with greensand, petrobond, and lost foam casting. The insulation foam panels (blue/pink) is easiest to carve/machine since you don't end up pulling out the little foam beads by accident, and theres no bead texture on the surface of the patterns. Kelly Coffield on YouTube has some...

    Aluminum bronze bolting plates

A new client in Montreal needs 2 of these to attach and support a bed frame to a strut trolley for a pulley-bed system. They are working with a CAD guy and sent me the 3d model to look at, so that I could let them know what needs to be changed to turn their model into a usable foundry...

Hi! Sounds like a great setup for cast aluminum, have you got a lot of heats on that lining yet? Should last a good while for aluminum casting. Maybe we can check out each other's casting setups some day (once I get my mess tidied up). I think you'd melt your diy lining getting iron to...

I've bought Everdur (silicon bronze) from Sculpture Supply in the past. I still have a little. I see it's a lot more expensive now. Tempting to try alloying some myself if I can find the silicon and manganese... Bill Jurgenson told me he used to buy everdur ingots from a company called Alloy...
